Greetings!  Who is ready to kick off the 2020-2021 season?  We know that we are!  It has been way too long since we’ve raised our voices in song.  This year we are doing things like we’ve never done before…we are going 100% virtual!  We know that our choristers love to sing and we have developed a program that will be engaging, safe, and most importantly fun for all of our choir levels.

Iowa Youth Chorus offers programming for students in 1st - 12th grade.  Children in Primary Choir will be virtually exploring different countries around the world through instruments, games, and songs.  Singers in Children’s Chorus or Chorale will be watching weekly recorded lessons and collaborating with their conductor and other choristers in their choir through scheduled Zoom meetings.  Choristers will develop musical skills, rehearse songs, and ultimately record themselves so we can virtually gather for our annual “Candy Cane” and “Spring Sing” concert!

Please take a moment and look around our brand new website!  Pay special attention to the “MY IYC” tab in the top right of the screen.  Once registered, you will get a login and password to view this special section of our website.  You will be able to find the Zoom links, recorded lessons, and additional information that is exclusively for our registered choristers.  Information about registration, rehearsal times, and tuition can be found under the “Choirs” tab on the website.

We know that many things have changed for all of us since March 2020.  But as always, we continue to believe that “Music Changes the World!”  Come raise your voice and change the world with us!

The seeds I sowed -
For week unseen -
Have pushed up pygmy
Shoots of green;
So frail you'd think
The tiniest stone
Would never let
A glimpse be shown

But no; a pebble
Near them lies,
At least a cherry-stone
In size,
Which that mere sprout
Has heaved away,
To bask in sunshine,
See the Day.

We want our choristers, our conductors, alumni, and friends to know that we see you. Winter has been long. COVID has been long. Our stones may feel quite large right now. You may feel tired. You may feel frail, but we know that the sun is coming. We hope you can feel the warmth of the sunshine. We hope the sunshine brings you the feeling of hope. We will get through this final stretch of winter and COVID. We long to See the Day too!

Thank you Iowa Youth Chorus!! I am so happy that my students have the opportunity to still meet each week via Teams. It is amazing to see the relationships and growth that can happen despite all of the challenges.
