Music Makers: At the Keyboard

Semester 2 of this 2-year sequence lays the groundwork for keyboard success. Children gain comprehensive music skills that benefit them no matter where their future interests lead: piano lessons, school band or orchestra or the Iowa Youth Chorus. In addition to time at the keyboards, the class features drumming, singing and composition.

Semester 4 refines the physical and aural skills developed in year 1. Your child will be introduced to familiar and new pieces as well as improvisation and composition. Playing by ear continues, but reading activities are more plentiful. Appropriate activities and sequencing in the curriculum allow your child to easily play in keys usually reserved for more advanced students. Dynamics, articulation and expression markings make your results more musical that ever.

A PIANO OR ELECTRIC KEYBOARD AT HOME IS REQUIRED FOR ALL KEYBOARD CLASSES.

Home materials for Semester 2 include a keyboard book, 2 CD’s or digital music and notation game cards.
Sibling kit for Semester 2 includes the Music Makers: At the Keyboard book and notation game cards.

Home materials for Semester 4 include worksheets and notation cards. (There is no sibling kit for Semester 4.)

Family Music for Toddlers: Now I’m One and Now I’m Two

Recall and learn songs and rhymes that have nurtured wonder and joy in young people for generations. These classes feature purposeful movement activities for coordination, body control and the pure joys of movement. Vocal play lays the foundation for singing and vocal development while focused listening enhances aural skills. Instrument exploration adds to the fun. This musical workout will help you and your child become more tuneful, beatful and artful.
